Are there any airtime or data charges for using GPSGolfShot?

GPSGolfShot does not use any airtime minutes. GPSGolfShot downloads about 10KB of data every time the application is started. If you do not have a data plan you will be charged Verizon's standard data rate (currently $1.99 per MB). Although this amount of data is small it is still recommended that you leave the GPSGolfShot application running during your entire round of golf to avoid extra download costs.

Why is the application not displaying my course?

GPSGolfShot determines your current location and will display the five closest courses.

GPSGolfShot currently works on over 15,000 courses nationwide. We are constantly updating our courses and adding new ones so you will always play with the latest information. If your course is not listed and you would like to have it added, please fill out this form. To help expidite the process, please include the following information:

  • The name of the golf / country club
  • The name of the course
  • The City, State and ZIP code

Does GPSGolfShot require cell phone reception?

Yes. Verizon phones use A-GPS or "Assisted GPS", which takes readings from both GPS satellites and nearby cellular towers, with the help of a location server on the network. The location server on the network is required to tell the phone which satellites to look for, and also to perform the calculations that provide precise location information.

Additionally, the application requires that you be in an "Enhanced Services" area on the Verizon network. The phone cannot perform GPS location services on the "Extended Ehanced Services" network. You can use the Coverage Locator on the Verizon website to determine if your course is in an "Ehanced Services" area.
