GPSGolfShot downloads about 10KB of data every time the application is started. If you do not have a data plan you will be charged Verizon's standard data rate (currently $1.99 per MB). Although this amount of data is small it is still recommended that you leave the GPSGolfShot application running during your entire round of golf to avoid extra download and airtime costs.
GPSGolfShot determines your current location and will display the five closest courses.
GPSGolfShot currently works on thousands of courses nationwide. We are constantly updating our courses and adding new ones so you will always play with the latest information. Yes. Verizon phones use A-GPS or "Assisted GPS", which takes readings from both GPS satellites and nearby cellular towers, with the help of a location server on the network. The location server on the network is required to tell the phone which satellites to look for, and also to perform the calculations that provide precise location information.
Additionally, the application requires that you be in an "Enhanced Services" area on the Verizon network. The phone cannot perform GPS location services on the "Extended Ehanced Services" network. You can use the Coverage Locator on the Verizon website to determine if your course is in an "Ehanced Services" area.
